Being a self-proclaimed nature nerd, Shelley brought along some of the toys that will decorate Shannah's owl-themed room. Palm Door Wedding Reception: Gaby + Steve

With this post we are proud to officially welcome Jamie to the Number 9 family. Some of our brides may have met Jamie when she filled in for a few weddings last year. We loved her work so much that we decided to make her a permanent part of Number 9 when Kim decided to move on. After two plus years with Number 9, we would like to extend our thanks to Kimberly Massey and wish her well with her own wedding this summer. To introduce Gaby and Steve, I'll refer back to Gaby's sister's wedding toast. She said Gaby could not have found a better man to marry, and the fact that Steve is a kindergarten teacher, only made him more perfect for Gaby. These two were not only in love, but the genuinely enjoyed each other's company. Gaby met Steve in the church garden's for a first look, and it was Steve who surprised his groomsmen with the Luchador masks...definitely a wedding highlight!

With the start of the new year, I have to admit...I've been a little hard on Number 9. Every year, I make resolutions not only for myself but for the company too. Since I didn't fulfill last year's goals, I've been hard on myself for not growing the business in certain areas.

With all that said, I woke up to RocknRoll Bride's inspirational interview with Emma Case. I needed to read Emma's honesty more than ever to realize that I don't need to beat up my company to be successful.

Here's to embracing all the things that make Number 9 creative in 2012. Like I said, "New Year, New View"-CA

Family Session: Wiley+Naomi+Veda

Christmas time is family time! This time of year is a good time introduce new family members while creating the first family portrait. Veda Moon, almost 5 months old, had her first shoot with her parents earlier this week. During the session, she laugh, cried, ate, napped and played...all in a day's work. I've photographed Naomi at the Cathedral of Junk and her maternity session. It was nice to have some camera time with Naomi and the family!

Cozzolino Family Session: Jenny+Simon+Cliff

Lions Golf Course Engagements: Leeann + Casey

When Leeann first met with Number 9, she shared how Casey proposed at Lions Golf Course in front of a tournament crowd. Since the engagement, the couple found out that Lions will soon close. Casey grew up playing on the course, so Leeann decided to have their pictures taken on their course where Casey holds a lot of memories. Leeann and Casey will wed on Dec. 17th at Mercury Hall in Austin.

Monday Morning Inspiration: Blurred Image Effect

This past weekend, while second shooting for friend of mine, the topic of style and inspiration came up. We were describing our different styles to a new photog in the business. We both learned that we look completely outside our area for inspiration. And that it's all too easy to fall into a routine of shooting the dress, shoes, bouquet...the same way as our colleagues. I'm guilty of it without knowing it.

For today's inspiration, I wanted to share some pics from a recent Jose Villa blog post. His blurred treatment of detail and subject brought me back to one of my first inspiration pics by Swedish photographer, Linda Alfvegren. Her floral photo kept me on my toes when I first started. I need the creative push again. It's good to reset the brain sometimes.

Kali-Kate Bridals: Kelly Bonnell

The week before she tied the knot with Matt, Kelly met with Kim at Kali-Kate for her bridal session. Together they took advantage of the natural scenery and created some striking photos of Kelly's vintage look. Check out the cameo neckpiece, her DIY bouquet and paper flowers pinned in her hair. Kelly's bouquet was a handmade mixture of paper flowers. The petals with the music notes were pages of their first dance sheet music. Very creative and inspiring...

Georgetown Wedding: Sheena + Mike

We had to privilege of visiting the Chamberlin's private residence in Berry Springs Park for Sheena and Mike's wedding. The area is still under development, and their street wasn't even on the map yet. The ceremony site and backyard space were pretty much unlimited. It was hard to believe we were at someone's home and not a rented venue.

Sheena's outdoor vision for the wedding included an amphitheater ceremony coupled with a backyard dinner and reception. So, it was interesting to see dark clouds loom over the day since we spent a full summer without a drop of rain. The rain drops teased the guests until the start of the ceremony and that was the last of it. The reception was an outdoor dinner catered by Pink Avacado under a tree of stringed lights. The couple ended the night by Mike giving Sheena her first ever pinata. Raphael didn't stand a chance! Best wishes to Sheena + Mike!

Monday Morning Inspiration

After a wedding weekend, we usually need some time to unwind from all things wedding. One former wedding photog termed this Sunday morning feeling as having a "wedding hangover". Susi, you couldn't be more right.

When Monday morning rolls around, I spend some time looking through blogs and tweets for wedding inspiration to jumpstart the editing process.

My monday inspiration is from the blog Met My Match. Loulabelle posts a pic from her grandparents wedding circa 1944. This is a great reminder that it's not about the quantity of photos, but what the wedding photo represents.

Scholz Garden Wedding: Emily + Troy

A couple of firsts happened when we shot the Woods Wedding back in July. First, it was our first time shooting at the Saengerrunde Hall, a charming banquet hall next to Scholz's Garden on Red River. Second, this was the first Number 9 wedding for our newest shooter, Jamie Westmoreland. We met Jamie back in October 2010 when she was the maid of honor for Amanda + Matt's wedding at McMurtrie Farms. We had an opportunity for her to join the Number 9 team, and it proved to be a perfect fit. Below are some of our favorite shots from Emily and Troy's wedding. The theme was "Life is Sweet" with a German twist, of course.

Chapel Dulcinea Commitment Ceremony: Danielle + Tiffany say 'I Do'

We were so happy when Dallas resident, Danielle, asked us to document her commitment ceremony to her favorite brunette, Tiffany. We could not say 'Yes' fast enough.

At the wedding, Danielle thanked Number 9 in her toast to family and friends. She and Tiffany were more than welcoming, and we received hugs and kisses from most of her family members. When we asked 'why so much love?', Danielle choked up when she told us they had been rejected by 2 other Austin wedding photographers who said they didn't agree with their union. Well, if that's the case, should we put all of our couple's love to the test before we agree to photograph them? Needless to say, when they found us, the third time was the charm. We couldn't feel more honored to share these photos with you.

The session was officiated by Kim Sessions with a reception at the Belmont.

Long Center Wedding Preview: Natiera and Rick

Vintage Villas Wedding: Laura + Mike

Laura and Mike are a great example of why couples should really consider taking engagement photos or any photo session before the wedding. When we first met for engagements last November, Laura went through all the normal jitters and anxieties of having her photo taken. After her bridals, the wedding served as Laura's third time in front of the camera. With the sessions, Laura and Mike got to know and trust their photographer, and this allowed them to have fun with the day. Maternity Session: Naomi

Good news! Naomi's water broke around this afternoon. While we are all waiting to meet Veda, we decided to share the maternity session we did back in June. Naomi is almost 8 months pregnant in the pics, and this is her first child. The great thing about Naomi, other than the camera loves her, is that she is open to any creative ideas we throw at her. Her sister, Christina ( a local makeup artist), did an amazing job shaping up Naomi's look for the shoot. Her talent is evident in the photos. The shirt she is wearing belong to Wiley's dad, and the stuff lamb is the first baby present from Naomi's mom. An early congratulations to new parents, Naomi + Wiley! They are in for a long and exciting night.

Afternoon luncheon weddings are my absolute favorite, and Amanda and Matt's wedding proves why. The excitement stays in the air and it's an all around good time. When we first met Amanda, she didn't have a venue yet but knew she wanted an Anthropologie-inspired wedding. She decided on McMurtrie Farms, a privately owned farm in Pflugerville, for her garden party idea. We LOVED the inspiration. Every detail was perfectly THEM, and that's what makes an fun wedding. Offbeat bride was a discovery of Kim's. Along with Rock and Roll Bride, we feel like it speaks to us. To those brides in the planning stages, definitely check it out for some tips on how to make your wedding unique to your personality. We were over the moon when we heard Offbeat wanted to feature the Nikki and Clint Oller wedding. The bride walked down the aisle to the theme of Kill Bill. Nikki loved the idea of posing with a sword, and her groom, Clint, served as Bill. Her step-daughter, Morgan, played the Lucy Liu role. The maid of honor served as Daryl Hannah's character, Elle Driver, with the eye patch. Last, we referenced the Crazy 88's with the mask on the best man. This was too much fun. We are so happy that Offbeat Bride decided the share these photos.

Wedding: Hailey + Kevin say 'I do' with RockBand style wedding

Ashleigh and Bryan met with Number 9 for a re-invention of the S. Congress portrait shoot. The goal was to show the true spirit of Austin while remaining true to Ashleigh and Bryan. As a photographer, I wanted to strip down the shoot to look as if the camera wasn't around. Ashleigh is a photographer herself, so she brought along her vintage camera for fun. Inspiration can come from tons of places, but this one particular book, 365, really left it's mark. The Spanish photographer, Sofía Barlocco, presented the book as an anniversary gift to her boyfriend. When I saw this, it made me want to up my game in how portraits are done. Engagements: Jamie + Drew

At Number 9 this month, we wanted to feature couple shoots. Adrian had the chance to meet Jamie and Drew a couple of months ago. By the time the shoot came around, Drew had popped the question to Jamie. Because of their love for horror films, Drew proposed at the Alamo Drafthouse before a screening of the Wolfman. Adrian played on their love for the monster-vision flicks for their shoot. Drew and Jamie's retro style didn't hurt either.

Jamie is the lead singer of Punk Blues Review. The couple met when Jamie's band played their first show at Headhunter's for the 2008 SXSW festival last March. Not too long after meeting, Jamie decided to move from New York to Austin to be with Drew. Here's the fun they had at their complex, the Metropolis...eastside!

Happy 1st Anniversary to Alonda and Xavier Cepeda....they met on a blind date, married each other less than a year after that, and now they celebrate their first year together. Their wedding was filled with red roses. Every time I hear "The Rose", I picture Alonda walking down the aisle. Then, I hear "These Arms of Mine" and think of their first dance at the Belmont. Cathedral of Junk

The Cathedral of Junk is something you have to see to believe. Located in the back yard of a South Austin home, each piece of junk is wired onto the mass for stability. More than just a pile, it's kind of a fort or a castle with staircases, arches, walkways, and separate rooms. The structure is so secure that it contains cement steps that lead you to the pinnacle of the junk. Get as high as you want or stay on the ground. There's plenty to see. Austin just wouldn't be the same without it.

Boudoir Shoot: Nicole Pritchard

The last session in our boudoir feature this month is Nicole Pritchard. Nicole, a massage therapist by day and former figure model, came to us ready to try anything. The look of the shoot was based off the idea of being retro yet campy. The makeup and look was created by Amanda Brown and all the outfits and hair were done by Nicole, herself. Together Charlotte and Nicole wanted to show a definition of 'sexy' that is carefree and fun.

Boudoir Shoot: Lauren Rachelle

Adrian worked on his first boudoir shoot with model, Lauren Rachelle. The approach of the shoot was modeled after Maxim's style but with more of an edge. Boudoir Feature: Clare Renee

Kim and Clare Renee met up for a shoot inspired by the 1930's, French boudoir style. The final product turned out to be a 30's meets Kim's goth side. Makeup artist, Amanda Brown, provided the Garbo-esque look while Clare's friend, Ada, took care of the hair setting and pin curls. Clare was wonderful to work with. We all appreciated her willingness to climb into a wet tree, bare all in 50 degree weather, and sit in hair and makeup for over 2 hours. View full shoot on Number 9's facebook site.

Valentine's Day Boudoir Feature

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone! To celebrate the day, most of you will receive candy, flowers and chocolate. At Number 9, we decided to give the gift of boudoir. Each photographer at Number 9 paired up with makeup artist, Amanda Brown, and hairstylist, Ada, to transform three models into each of our separate concepts of boudoir. With a mix of nature and goth, Kim's vision focused on a vintage, 30's-inspired shoot with model, Clare Renee. Adrian came up with an edgier, Maxim-style shoot with Lauren Rachelle, and Charlotte kept to an offbeat, retro style with Nicole Pritchard. Thank you to everyone that helped bring the ideas to life. Taylor's 3rd Birthday

We were so excited when Carolyn Greenwalt, a volunteer with GENaustin, contacted us to photograph her daughter's 3rd birthday. Held at Frank's downtown, the party theme, inspired by hostess, was covered with pink from the balloons, decorations, kid's wigs, and that pink lemonade. For entertainment, the kids started by decorating their own birdhouse and playing pinball. After feasting on the hotdogs, all the kids started a pink hair riot with wigs and mustaches for laughs. A party wouldn't be a party without the the three tier cake made by Nicole of Wicked Cakes. The party favor of the day was the thank you truffles by Austin's own, Babycake Truffles.

New Year, New Wedding: Debbie + Duff Starrett

Our first wedding of 2010 happened to also be our first trip to Wimberley, TX. Debbie Fanning and Duff Starrett were married on the first Saturday in January at the Chapel in the Hills. Their wedding had a lot of hometown charm since their families lived in Wimberley. The groom and his party gathered at Duff's family's house on the Blanco River while Debbie and her two daughters got ready at the church. The ceremony, short and sweet, was followed by an intimate dinner at the historic Winters-Wimberley house. The bride's mother and close family friend dressed up the dinning room as a wedding present to the couple. We were able to catch Debbie's face upon first glance. We loved the ease of this wedding. Congrats goes out to Debbie, Duff and their future.

Back in November, Adrian did a photo shoot for the American Motorcyclist Association for a story covering activist, Mark Bloschock. The article focused on Bloschock's position that highway cable barriers could be deadly to motorcyclist. To find out more about the barriers, check out AMA's website.

We are excited to post the published photo in the Feb. 2010 issue of American Motorcyclist Magazine. We had to reserve from posting the session photos until after the issue came out. The photo was taken on Mopac as Bloschock's colleague help ward off on coming traffic. Congrats to Adrian for a great shoot.
